The 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards was a cavalry regiment formed in India 1922 by the amalgamation of Royal Irish (4th) and Princess Royal's (7th) Dragoon Guards, gaining it's royal designation in 1936. It was mechanised and then transferred into the Royal Armoured Corps. shortly before the outbreak of WW2. Finally after the end of the Cold War, following the reduction of troops, it was amalgamated with another Dragoon regiment to form the Royal Dragoon Guards in 1992.
They were involved with many large conflicts during WW2, including Dunkirk, D-Day and Market Garden.
This fine reproduction of the regiment badge features a silvered eight-pointed rayed star, with the motto 'Quis Separabit' (Who shall separate us) and the Roman numerals MCMXXII In the centre is a cross with the coronet of the Princess Royal superimposed on top. It has an aged look, and is designed to be pinned to a beret, but does not come with an attachment pin.
