The Royal Lincolnshire Regiment was a line infantry regiment of the British Army raised in 1685 and named the 10th (North Lincoln) Regiment of Foot. In 1881, it became the Lincolnshire Regiment after the county where it had been recruiting for the last century. After the Second World War, the regiment was honoured with the name Royal Lincolnshire Regiment, before being amalgamated in 1960 with several other units to form the Royal Anglian Regiment. The Sphinx symbol for this regiment comes from their service in North Africa during the during the Napoleonic wars, including a harrowing forced march through Egypt.
Notable conflicts include the Napoleonic Wars Second Boer War, the Anglo-Sikh wars, and both World Wars.
This fine reproduction of the 2nd pattern regiment bi-metal badge, from 1946 onwards, features a brass Sphinx, on a tablet inscribed 'Egypt' in old English characters. Below the Sphinx, is an gold curved scroll inscribed 'Royal Lincolnshire Regiment'. It has an aged look, and is designed to be pinned to a beret, but does not come with an attachment pin.
