The marines can trace their origins back to the formation of the English Army's "Duke of York and Albany's maritime regiment of Foot" in 1664. Worn by soldiers of the British Royal Marines during World War 2, these badges would have been worn on berets.
Notable conflicts include: Napoleonic Wars, Crimean War, and both World Wars.
The badge itself is of a wreathed globe surmounted by the King's Crown, in gilt metal.
