1957 War Merit Cross 1st Class

The War Merit Cross was awarded for civilian or military merit which did not involve combat service on the front line.

In 1957 a series of awards were re-designed with the removal of the swastika, which allowed WW2 veterans serving in the newly formed Bundeswehr to wear medals they had earned previously.

This medal is die struck with a silvered finish. It has a pin back for fitting to the tunic.
